Soul Nourishing

I have been meeting and interviewing people for a month, and I have to say, I love it!  Sharing lunch with Elizabeth Garland and all her brilliant ideas was a breath of fresh air. We had fried egg sandwiches, so I knew right then, we would become great friends. She, like me believes food brings people together. A table with great food is a place where people can talk openly and honestly. Elizabeth loves to cook, thus, the name “Soul Nourishing”.  She goes by Betsey. She was referred to me by Bob Bevard, a savvy motivational speaker and her significant other.  Thank you Bob! Betsey will change lives!

Betsey came to San Antonio by way of Maryland, Pennsylvania and Florida. She chose to stay here because it had a mixture of the mountains that reminded her of Maryland, the Irish-German peoples that were similar to Pennsylvania folks and the Latino flare of Florida.  Her background is Environmental Engineering Science. After 16 years in corporate America she became a liaison expert part-time. A brief marriage that failed led to her turning point. She had settled and that is not what life is about. “I knew I wanted and needed to help others.  Since I already had years of education and a Masters in Environmental Sciences and a Bachelors in Microbiology I didn’t think I wanted to continue on that path. What is the easiest way for me to start helping people?” She found her answer. She studied and trained under Tom Best of Best Resources and became certified in The Neuro Linguistic Program and specializes in Grief Recovery, Theta healing and Clean Language. She became a Soul coach 1 year ago and is ready to start growing her business.

In a perfect world everyone would have a life coach. A life coach is a mentor and a guide. Betsey is a holistic life soul coach. She teaches adults to listen and communicate with each other. Pay attention to words, language, body language and to build a good rapport. “It is fun to work with people and teach them simple techniques to resolve conflicts with others and with themselves. I want to deal with your core values and change your core beliefs if they are hurting you.  Grief counseling helps people let go of the hurt. Grief is many things; death, divorce, loss of a job, loss of a controlled substance….. you cannot replace what was valuable to you, but you can go through the motions to process the grief. You can enjoy the memories again. Memories are supposed to make us smile, not cause pain. I can talk you through the process of letting go. Talk therapy takes away the confusion. If you are in crisis-get out of crisis. There is a better way to live”.

Betsey shares her wisdom and experience because she has gone through a lot. An awful lot has happened to her. The women in her program trust her- they think, you are like me and you give me hope. “I bring awareness into their lives. I lay it out for them, and tell them, this is what I can do to help you change your experiences. We are all responsible for our own emotional state. You are in control of your reactions. You are not responsible for what people do to you and I honestly don’t think you create 100% of what happens to you. A lot of women have suffered trauma. A lot of women were raised to feel as if it were their fault. As women, we were raised to be quiet.  I can teach you how to stand up for yourselves, have better relationships and mend what is broken in our families.”

Betsey has strong energy so many of her clients are men. She offers private sessions and she will meet at a restaurant, come to your office or over Skype or the telephone. Most of her men clients are very successful and high profile.

There are many ways to get help.  Most people are afraid to open up.  This is why she offers group sessions and seminars.  She partners with different wellness centers throughout the city.  Betsey teaches a 10 week course in grief recovery.  She is an interactive speaker and a story teller.  Storytelling is fun! Fun is everything! I had so much fun with her! “I love to coach professional people and help them in sales.”  Organizations, churches and schools can get discounts. She incorporates sports in her coaching sessions.  “Jumping into Life” is a skydiving group.  She has a South Texas hiking group.  She loves animals, poetry, language and salsa dancing. “There is so much energy to teach people on these trips.”  Her dream is to be global.

Another great thing about Betsey is that she gives and gives. WhoKnewCities looks for these kinds of professionals that give back and Betsey does this tenfold! She is the co-founder of The L.O.V.E.  M.E. project which brings mental health awareness to the community through the arts. She is a supporter of the Blue Star Contemporary Art Center and collects Tom Ricks, Armon Brown, Momo and JD  Morea. She is a volunteer in the annual Bassua Bash which is the largest single day waterway clean up in Texas. She donates time to work with cancer patients and is a member of the National Alliance for health.  Bravo!

“I have so many hopes and dreams….I think I am going to have to live to be a 150! This is my purpose. I need to share what I have gone though and I probably went through it to help others. I am not supposed to give my life to one person, but to the whole world.”
